Features
Everything Duct does
Duct finds the exact page in every document you have and shows you where it found it, on your own computer or server. Free for one person; paid plans add AI without setup and team features.
Find
Search that finds it, and shows you where
Type a few words. Duct searches the text of every document on your computer and names the file and page for every result.
Every result has its page
Results name the page, slide, sheet or chapter. PDFs open at that page with your words highlighted, so you check the wording yourself.
Matches how people write
“Terminate” finds “termination”, accents don’t matter, quoted phrases match word for word, file names count, and 1200, 1,200 and 1 200 all find each other.
No dead endsNew
When nothing matches, Duct says why: a “did you mean” spelled the way your documents spell it, results your filters hid, and the scans or locked files it couldn’t look inside.
Why this result?New
One click shows what matched: the exact words in the passage (including other forms of what you typed), the file name, or a match by meaning.
Search from anywhereNew
Press ⌘⇧Space (Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows) in any app. Quick search opens over whatever you’re doing, with your recent searches and documents, and Enter opens the result at its page. Pick other keys if those are taken.
A first minute that shows you what you haveNew
While Duct reads your folders it tells you what it’s finding: 60 invoices, 25 contracts, 6 CVs. Then it asks for the document you couldn’t find last week, with suggestions drawn from your own files.
Sources
Wherever your documents are
Duct reads 99 file types, including scans, and keeps up as files change.
Folders, kept in sync
Watch the folders on your computer or server, including the ones Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox sync. New and changed files are added in the background.
WhatsApp chatsNew
Export a chat with its media and add it. The conversation becomes searchable by day, and every file in it is labelled with who sent it and when: “Delivery note, from Ada, 13 March”.
Google Drive, SharePoint and S3Team
Connect Google Drive, OneDrive, a SharePoint site or an S3 bucket (MinIO, R2, Wasabi too). Duct reads them directly, read-only, and only fetches what changed. Files never pass through Tensflare.
Scans and email
Scanned PDFs and photos are read with OCR on your own machine. Saved emails are read with their attachments. Files with no readable text are flagged, never silently missed.
Coming up
Dates your documents are waiting on
Contracts expire, invoices fall due and licences renew. Duct notices.
The deadlines radarNew
The home screen lists dates your documents say something expires, is due or renews on, read from the words next to each date, so signing dates don’t count. Each one opens the document at the date. Worked out on your computer.
Use what you find
From a search to a brief, an audit or a bid
Copy, collect and export with sources
Copy a passage with its source, collect passages across searches, and export them as a Word document, an evidence list in CSV, or Markdown.
Notebooks you can shareNew
Open two documents side by side, select a sentence and add it to a notebook with its page and your comment. Export it to Word, or send it as one page anyone can open on their phone. On a Team server, share it with people to read or edit; they only see quotes from files they can open.
Citations and tags
Copy a citation in APA or BibTeX from the title, author and year Duct reads from the file. Tag documents by client, matter or tender and filter by them.
Ask, with sources (Labs)
Ask a question and get an answer that cites the passages it used. Use a local model, your own API key, or hosted AI on a paid plan.
Privacy you can check
Private, and it shows you
Your documents are read and searched on your own computer or server. Duct doesn’t ask you to take that on trust.
The privacy ledgerNew
Settings › Privacy lists every connection Duct made to another computer, what it was for and how much was sent, recorded by Duct itself on your device. On most days it says one word: “Nothing.”
Works offline
Search, OCR and the viewer need no internet. When you’re offline Duct says so, and that everything is still searchable.
Open source
The app is Apache 2.0, so anyone can read exactly what it does and sends; team server features are source-available too. Anonymous usage counts are off by default, and you can see every field before you turn them on.
For teams
One search for the team, on your own servers
Run Duct on your network or in your cloud. Everyone searches from their browser.
Results follow who may see each fileNewTeam
With sign-in, people only find what they could open at the source: a Drive file shared with Chidi shows up for Chidi, not for Ada. Sharing links don’t make a file searchable by everyone.
Your sign-in, and an audit logTeam
People sign in with Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID or Okta. Admins and members are set by email and domain. Every search, open and export is in an audit log you can download.
Duct in your cloudEnterprise
Docker Compose with automatic HTTPS, or Kubernetes. Your documents, the index and the audit log stay in your infrastructure.
