The problem

Case files, precedents, briefs and contracts sit in folders by matter, often as scanned bundles. Finding the clause your firm used in a similar matter, or the page of a judgment you relied on, takes hours. Client confidentiality rules out most cloud AI tools.

What Duct does

  • Runs on your own machine or the firm’s server, so client files never leave the firm.
  • Every result names the file and page, and the PDF opens there with the words highlighted: a citation you can check.
  • Reads scanned bundles with OCR, Word and old .doc files, RTF, and emails with their attachments.
  • Copy a passage with its source, tag documents by matter or client, and export what you found into a Word document.

How it works for legal

  1. 1

    Add your matter folders

Point Duct at the folders where matters live, or drop in a scanned bundle.

  2. 2

Search for the clause or the principle

Exact phrases in quotes, or a few words that match their other forms: “terminate” finds “termination”.

  3. 3

    Cite the page

The judgment opens at the page with your words highlighted. Copy the passage with its source.

Made for this work

The parts of Duct you’ll use most.

A citation you can check

PDFs open at the cited page with every match highlighted, so you confirm the wording yourself before it goes into a brief.

Scanned bundles become searchable

Duct reads scanned PDFs and images with OCR, on your own machine. Files with no readable text are flagged so nothing is silently missed.

From research to a document

Collect the passages you need across several searches, then export them with their sources into a Word document for the team.

Dates the matter is waiting on

The deadlines radar lists dates your documents say something expires, is due or must be filed by, read from the words next to each date. Each one opens the document at the date.

Reads the files you already have

No converting, no uploading. Duct reads 99 file types where they are.

Search you can verify

Every result names the file and the page it came from, and opens the document there with your words highlighted. Your documents stay on your computer or your own server.
